2014 E-SCOW REGATTA
March 28-30, 2014
1. RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the Rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing
(RRS) and the E-Scow Class Rules.
2. Racing rules will be changed as followed:
2.1 All races will be scored except there will be one throw out if six races are sailed.
This changes Appendix A2.
2.2 E-Scows will be required to race with Float Paks at the top of the mast.
2.3 The Prescriptions RRS 60, RRS 63.2 and RRS 63.4 are deleted.
2.4 Appendix T2 (“Penalties Taken After Race”) will be in effect.
3. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY:
3.1 The regatta is open to E-Scows only.
3.2 Eligible boats must enter by completing the online Entry Form.
4. FEES:
*Entry fees: E-Scows $150
**Late Registration Fee $ 25
* Entry fee includes 4 party tickets. Extra tickets are $30 each. Fix your own lunches are
$7 each.
** All competitors must register and pay online via the CYC web site by March 21st. Any
competitor who does not do so will be charged a $25 late fee
5. SCHEDULE:
Friday, March 28 1000-1130 Registration, Under the Boathouse
1200 Skipper’s Meeting, Boathouse
1330 First Warning, other race(s) to follow.
Saturday & Sunday 1030 First Warning, other race(s) to follow
Awards Ceremony (see 6.c)
6. SOCIAL:
a. Continental breakfast under the Boathouse on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
b. 1900 Saturday: Cocktails and Dinner at the Club.
c. Awards following final race on Sunday.
d. Boathouse and club restaurants are open to sailing participants and guests for the
weekend (cash accepted).
Appropriate attire required for the Club restaurants.
e. Keg beer Friday, Saturday and Sunday after the races.
7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: The Sailing Instructions will be available at Registration.
8. VENUE: Racing will be in beautiful Charleston harbor, from the Carolina Yacht Club,
50 East Bay Street, Charleston, South Carolina
9. THE COURSES: The courses will be included in the Sailing Instructions.
10. PENALTY SYSTEM:
10.1 RRS 44.1 and 44.2 are changed so that only one turn, including one tack and one
gybe, is required, in lieu of the two turn penalty required by RRS 44.1.
10.2 Appendix T2 is in effect. A protested boat can take a Post Race Penalty of 20% or
30% prior to a protest hearing.
11. SCORING:
11.1 The Low Point Scoring System of Appendix A will apply, except that a boat’s
final score shall be the sum of all races, with no throw outs (except there will be one
throw out if 6 or more races are sailed). This changes Rule A2.
11.2 The number of races sailed will be at the discretion of the race committee. One
race will constitute a regatta.
12. AWARDS:
12.1 Prizes will be awarded to first through fifth, depending on size of fleet.
13. REGISTRATION:
13.1 All competitors must register and pay online via the CYC website by March
21st. Any competitor who does not do so will be charged a $25 late fee at
registration.
13.2 Registration form is attached or available at registration.
