US SAILORS of The Week - Nick Scandone, Maureen McKinnon-Tucker & John Ruf
For their outstanding medal-winning performances, US SAILING is proud to name U.S. Paralympic Sailing Team members Nick Scandone & Maureen McKinnon-Tucker (SKUD-18) and John Ruf (2.4 mR) as this week's US SAILORS of the Week! Nick and Maureen were both first-time Paralympians and are the USA's first Paralympic sailing gold medalists. In addition, McKinnon-Tucker entered the history books as the first female gold medalist in the history of Paralympic Sailing. John Ruf (2.4mR), also a first-time Paralympian, entered the event as an underdog, but proved his talent securing a coveted bronze medal in the tight 2.4 mR fleet.
Congratulations Nick, Maureen and John!   (http://olympics.ussailing.org/The_Team/John_Ruf.htm)

Walter has been ill for a while and was unable to attend the E-Nationals this year because he has been hospitalized some with congestive heart failure.
Derek Stoldt had this to say: "I'm not sure people know this but Walter is largely credited with "creating" or at least coming up with the idea for the NCESA. He approached representatives from the ILYA and BBYRA and the association was born from there. He declined to be the first commodore, but I believe he was the NCESA's second commodore."
