Charleston Regatta *** March 28-30

This has been known as the Easter Regatta for many years but the Carolina YC has changed the dates and format to encourage more E-Scow sailors to participate. It will now be a three day regatta and the dates for this year are March 28-30. Racing will begin Friday afternoon to allow competitors to set up their boats on Friday morning since many will have had a long drive the day/night before.

Charleston is a great place this time of year and the venue is in the heart of the city, within short walks to many interesting places and great restaurants. Racing in Charleston Harbor should be on your bucket list - it is just plain wonderful to race there.

They are using Regatta Network to administer the event. On-line registration ($150) has to be completed by March 21 to avoid a $25 late fee. The entry fee includes 4 party tickets. Extra tickets are $30 each, and great (if past experience proves me right) fix your own lunches are $7 each.

Your NCESA Membership fee is Due

You will get a red reminder notice, when you login to access the NCESA web page to pay your 2014 dues. However, the content of the website is mostly all public now so there isn't much need to login any longer. That is a bit of a problem because you will not get the notice unless you login. PLEASE make an effort now to go to the website and login and renew your membership for 2014. As usual I will be sending out email reminders over the next few months - it is such a big help if you take care of this early and not wait until the first race. Especially boat owners - I need time to get the 2014 boat sticker to you before your first race if you want it to count!

Website Changes

There have been some minor updates to the website.

The first was to eliminate the need to login to get at most all the information contained on the website. You will be required to login to get at detail contact information of other members or to update your own data. However, you are able to see the list of all members without logging in. For 'Boat Owner' membership renewals, I will send 2014 boat stickers starting sometime around March 20th, but please don't use that as a reason to put off renewing your membership.

We will retain previous years race information (NORs, reports, results and miscellaneous stories) just in case anyone has an interest in referencing them or just feel like taking a moment for a little nostalgia. On some of the Menu Tabs there will be a Sub-menu identifying the year. An example is the Menu "Regatta NORs & Results". The sub menus will show content for years 2013 and 2014. By the way, the 2014 Regatta NOR & Results menu is the place to head for a complete summary of events for the entire racing season. Notice that the text in "red" means the link has content for you to see. If the text is 'Black, nothing has been posted yet.

Our Social Media presence is an area that the Board of Directors wants to greatly improve. We have added Facebook and Twitter buttons to webpages and news articles. If you have a Facebook or Twitter account, please help us gain a broad audience by "liking" us or doing a re-tweet. Along those lines - we need more people from all the regions/clubs that would be willing to create posts on the NCESA Facebook and Twitter accounts. If you are an active user and have an interest in helping us out, please contact Lon Schoor to get authorization.
