NCESA Asymmetrical Experiment                                    29 November 2003

Goal – To determine the viability/performance/fleet interest of a mast head asymmetrical with a high clew as put forward in the final design proposed in Nov 2003.

Description – A two year experiment was approved at the NCESA Directors Meeting for a Mast Head Asymmetrical with carbon sprint and mast jumper stays connected at the top and bottom of the mast through the spreader tips.

2003 Winter Cost –
        Hull & mast conversion: $1300
        New Asymmetrical mast head spinnaker $1200.

Possible design questions for the Participants/Guests to answer?

• Does an asymmetrical spinnaker change the game in favorable/acceptable ways?
  
• Is there the a way to evolve the E-Scow without losing the depth of our fleet in both numbers of boats and numbers of fleets?
  
• Does this experiment bring new boats/fleets into E-Scow sailing in significant numbers to offset the cost of transitioning?
  
• Does this rig provide more enjoyable racing/sailing experience in a variety of lakes and conditions for both skipper and crew?
  

Experimental Parameters –

• Initial Two years experiment
• Skipper must be a Regular NCESA Member
• A maximum of ten boats distributed around the country.
  
• Must use the rig all year at all events in order to give the broadest exposure. You can opt out after the first year.
  
• Must make an effort to participate in a variety of regatta events and allow other skippers to sail.
• Will have full rights under the Rules of Sailing.
• Shall not be scored in any sanctioned regattas, will not count in individual race results or be eligible for individual race trophies.
• Regatta Results to be noted at bottom of score sheet at all events.
• All costs to be absorbed by participating skippers/applicants
  
• Must write a written report back to the Rules Committee by no later then 30 Sept 2004 and again in 2005 if they continue to experiment.
• Should try to create a log book of comments. Or refer them to a website form on E-Scow.org to log comments.
