H-7 Leeboard Bent in Race
6 of the 2009 Blue Chip Regatta
We were about 200 ft from the
leeward gates with the asymmetrical spinnaker up and
everyone hiking hard in a strong breeze.
I think we hit something that started the bend and then
the pressure of the boat and sails just continued it. At
first I thought the rudder hit something and broke off
because I lost steerage. After we got the spinnaker down
we tacked to to see if the rudder was in fact broken
off. But the rudder was all intact. The crew was looking
over the edge and noticed the board was bent under the
boat.
