Rules Committee Chairman's
Interpretation on the Recent GPS Electronics Vote
T
he question from David Hagan on
Feb 10, 2009 was:
If I interpret
you correctly, Item 1 on the ballot; Prohibit the use of
electronic equipment which displays or computes mark
positions or course thereto, true or relative boat
speed, or other GPS or computed parameters – failed.
Which means these devices
are now allowed?
It is a bit of a double
negative, so I am just seeking clarity.
The response from Ted Beier, Rules
Committee Chairperson is:
Yes, we have failed to prohibit
them. Therefore, our sailors can carry any high priced
gadgets they wish during racing since the scantlings
remain silent on the issue. Our sailors may now be a
servo in an electronic feedback system.
